Studying in an institution known for excellence is a source of pride — and Great Dennis Foundation Academy stands tall as one of such institutions, having nurtured countless prominent personalities in the field of education. The academy, affectionately called “The Learning Field,” was founded in 1996 by Mr. Joseph Obeng Damoah, popularly known as Teacher Kofi, a native of Bawdie. At the time, Mr. Damoah was a dedicated pupil teacher at Bawdie Government Basic School, surviving on a modest salary. Despite the challenges, he had a vision — to establish a school that would liberate his community from educational limitations and offer a brighter future for the next generation. Through relentless determination and the support of close friends, Mr. Damoah was introduced to Mr. Dennis Forgeron, a Canadian mineral explorer. Mr. Forgeron gave immense financial and moral support to the dream. In honor of his contribution, the institution was named Great Dennis after him.
The school was officially inaugurated on 3rd September 1996, beginning with only four students — two of whom were Mr. Damoah’s own children. From humble beginnings and through numerous challenges, the academy steadily grew into the educational powerhouse affectionately referred to today as the “Amenfi Mini University.” Since 2002, Great Dennis has consistently recorded 100% passes in the B.E.C.E., earning recognition across the district. In 2003, some students of the academy received Presidential Awards and were invited by the Duke of Edinburgh to study in the United Kingdom, later gaining admission into Plymouth University. The school also claimed victory in the 2005 District Maths and Science Quiz, earning district-wide respect and rewards. In appreciation of the school's remarkable achievements, the Omanhene of the Amenfi Traditional Area honored the academy. From four students to national recognition, Great Dennis Foundation Academy has never looked back. It continues to uphold its legacy of academic excellence, discipline, and integrity — living up to expectations and beyond.
